Innovación y sostenibilidad: claves para el desarrollo
¿Sostenibilidad? Un concepto importante para reflexionar, comprender y tener claro cómo podemos aportar, y qué decisiones se deben priorizar a la hora de innovar en las organizaciones. 👀
Los seres humanos somos los únicos responsables de nuestra propia existencia. Más aún cuando empezamos a ver las consecuencias de nuestros actos en el único planeta que tenemos para vivir. Consecuencias que han generado cambios geológicos de relevancia y que impactan, precisamente, en la preservación de la vida humana, pero parece que todavía no somos lo suficiente conscientes. 😳
El término Antropoceno, popularizado por el Premio Nobel de Química 1995, Paul Crutzen, se ha utilizado para designar esta era actual en la que la especie humana ha sido la dominante; pero como una paradoja, nuestras decisiones insostenibles nos están dominando e imponiendo supremacía, y nos están llevando a nuestra propia extinción.
Frente a esto, la sostenibilidad es fundamental para la preservación de la vida en la Tierra. La sostenibilidad es esencial para empezar a tomar real consciencia, implica hacer cambios en cada una de las acciones y decisiones que tomamos a diario. 👍🏻
¿Qué es la sostenibilidad?
La sostenibilidad es un concepto definido desde 1987, por la Comisión Brundtland de las Naciones Unidas, que busca satisfacer las necesidades del presente sin comprometer las necesidades de las generaciones futuras; concepto que urge aprender pues no queremos darnos cuenta de que, incluso, ya estamos en un desequilibrio que podría afectar la generación actual.
La tarea no es solo —como algunos creen o confunden— de garantizar el equilibrio ambiental, la protección de los ecosistemas y la biodiversidad. El rol de la sostenibilidad abarca desarrollo económico y social que, como ciclo circular, vuelve e impacta lo ambiental. 🙌🏻
Para comprenderlo, se necesita un trabajo profundo desde la educación, y luego llevarlo a la puesta en marcha de acciones sencillas en nuestras rutinas, así como en acciones concretas de gobiernos, instituciones y empresas privadas.
Si no lo hacemos, será la naturaleza misma la encargada de abrirnos los ojos – por cierto, ya lo viene haciendo – y mostrarnos que, sino cooperamos, los extintos seremos nosotros los humanos.
¿Cómo aportar a la sostenibilidad?
“Somos la especie dominante, pero será la naturaleza quien decida cuánto podremos coexistir“, bien lo dijo Christine K. Johnson, epidemióloga de la Universidad de California, en un contexto de pandemia. Y enfatizó en que “tenemos que encontrar maneras seguras y sostenibles de coexistir con la vida silvestre en un mundo compartido”. 🌱
Precisamente, la pandemia que vivimos en 2020 fue un gran abrebocas. Vimos cómo esa vida silvestre empezó a recobrar espacios que hemos invadido, reflexionamos acerca de lo conectados que estamos como sociedad y como ecosistema. 🍃
Mejor aún, volvimos a lo simple, a lo sencillo, reconociendo lo fundamental para vivir; aprendimos que mucho de lo que hacemos y consumimos no es imprescindible, y que entonces sí podemos hacer cambios. 🤩
Por lo tanto, son cambios lo que debemos hacer de forma urgente. Debemos pasar a un nuevo estilo de vida que brinde esperanza: una vida sostenible. 🌎
Aprendamos cómo podemos cambiar actividades, que han revolucionado nuestra civilización, pero que implican la extracción de recursos naturales y la destrucción de la biodiversidad.
Busquemos cómo podemos implementar innovación que sea ambientalmente responsable, socialmente justa y económicamente viable, y así no afectar la capacidad de la Tierra para sostener la vida.
